I've been puttering about with some macaroon recipes lately and despite never being very clear on how to spell the word, I think I may have discovered the best recipe for them yet, with thanks to the wonderful Helene from Tartelette. She is the macaroon queen in my eye's. If you have never spent any time on her blog please head over there and drool over her fantastic food photography and recipes.
I'll not repost her recipe, instead please use this link. About the only difference is that I didn't colour the mac mixture, instead opting for a white 'biscuit' (is that what they are called??) and then I hand painted a wee strip of colour on them ... trying to be artistic and failed in spectacular style! To do this I added a drop of vodka (I had raspberry flavoured to hand which just seemed to lend itself perfectly) to a small amount of food gel and then painted away. The food paste was supposed to be raspberry but ended up being more plum like, promise I hadn't tasted the contents of the vodka bottle prior to selecting the food gel! The finishing touch is a small sprinkle of edible glitter, added while the 'paint' was still wet.
These mac's helped to use up the last of the homemade mascarpone and raspberry and vanilla jam, there's a clue as to how long ago these were made! I can assure you that these little guys didn't last any longer than a day, they just seemed to fall into everybody's mouth's with careless abandon and there have been several requests for more batches to be made.
Stayed tuned as there are Halloween inspired macs on the horizon ... anyone know where I can find thin liquorice straps??
Your macaroons look seriously good and raspberry is always my favourite fruity ingredient so these are my idea of heaven!!! I also like your painted plum stripe!!! :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Laura - they are very tasty ;0)
DeleteThese look amazing, give yourself credit....I think they look very artistic indeed! I've never made Macaroons but this recipe looks great. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteAwe shucks Emma ;0)
DeleteThanks very much
I have to agree that raspberry red colour can be a little difficult to create - I've tried and failed in the past. These do sound lovely with or without some vodka on the side.
ReplyDeleteEvery thing is better with vodka Phil ;0)
DeleteOf course I promote drinking responsibly too!
Your macaroons are indeed artistic Chele, quite stunning in fact. I wouldn't worry about what they are called when you can make them look as good as this. It's macaroons for us Brits and Macarons for the French. I tend to call your very professional looking ones Macarons and my very homemade looking ones macaroons.
ReplyDeleteNow why didn't I think to make some raspberry vodka when they were in season?
Thanks Choclette ... spelling has never been my forte so i think from now on I'll just stick to tagging them as 'Macs' ;0)
DeleteI thought the Scottish ones were the macaroons and the french ones were the macarons. Which ever is correct, they look amazing! I am very excited about the painted stripe. How sad am i? You can get liquorice straps in Tesco & Asda I think. Not sure how thin they are.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jac, I ended up having to order the liquorice online. And there is never anything sad about food excitement ;0)
DeleteThese are so beautiful...I love your presentation! I must master these myself..and I agree the spelling is a nightmare :)
ReplyDeleteCheers Hun - now go and enjoy the rest of your travels ;0)
DeleteThese look fab! Macaroons are something I've never dared to try. Absolutely love the colour of the filling here! Look forward to seeing your Halloween inspired ones :)
ReplyDeletethese look so impressive and one of my favourite flavours
ReplyDeleteWow these look amazing! You are a macaron queen yourself - I've not had much success making these fiddly things!
